EACTAIC supports well-grounded training in adult cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia at 15 accredited educational facilities through harmonizing the training and education processes.
The EACTAIC Fellowship Programme is open to all physicians irrespective of their country of origin, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

Why should I join the EACTAIC Fellowship Programme?

By joining the EACTAIC Fellowship Programme at any of the accredited EACTAIC hosting centres, you will

  • develop your professional skills (both technical and non-technical);
  • have the opportunity for hands-on experience at some of the very specialized worldwide high-volume European and non-European EACTAIC hosting centres in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery that would inspire your confidence in making your professional dreams happen;
  • have the opportunity to exchange ideas and experience with mentors, and learn from peer-to-peer through a well-structured standard fellowship programme among the 15 EACTAIC hostings centres for the Fellowship programme;
  • develop your interpersonal communications with patients, patients’ relatives, and colleagues at professional multidisciplinary teams;
  • advance your professional development by gaining new work experience that can help you reaching goals in your career;
  • develop cross-cultural competency and awareness;
  • learn how to provide self-assessment and reflective inputs on the educational process and on the programme itself;
  • widen your professional and friendly network with worldwide colleagues through the EACTAIC community;
  • increase your opportunities for standing out for candidacy for jobs and academic and career promotions at either your home centre or other centres.

What to expect joining the EACTAIC Fellowship Programmes?

Following completing your national specialization in general anaesthesia, that would be the right time to think about completing an additional one or two fellowship years of speciality training in specific areas as follows:

(1) During the first ‘mandatory’ basic training year, you would be involved in the direct care of patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular anaesthesia, interventional cardiology. You would also have dedicated training rotations in the critical care units, perfusion technique, extracorporeal life support, and transoesophageal transthoracic echocardiography.

(2) The second ‘optional’ advanced fellowship year includes 3 to 6 months modules to deliver a high level of training in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular anaesthesia, critical care medicine, echocardiography, heart-lung transplantation, organization, and research. These advanced modules would deepen and extend your technical and non-technical skills acquired during the basic EACTAIC Fellowship training.
