Acute kidney injury (AKI) and Cardiopulmonary Bypass – Risks – Causes – Prevention – Implementing Change

Organizers: EACTAIC Educational Committee in collaboration with the EACTAIC CPB Subspecialty Committee.

Chair of the Session: Professor Gudrun Kunst (Chair of EACTAIC CPB Subspecialty Committee, London, UK)

IMPORTANT: We regret to inform you that this Webinar will be postponed to 2024 due to an unforeseen problem within the faculty of the webinar. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Recognise the impact of perfusion during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery.
  • Understand the correlations between perioperative hypotension and developing postoperative AKI after cardiac surgery.
  • Identify the importance of monitoring urine output during and following the CPB in identifying AKI after cardiac surgery.
  • Indicate the predictability of different biomarkers in diagnosing post-cardiac surgery AKI.
  • Demonstrate the roles of anaesthesiologists in preventing postoperative AKI following cardiac surgery.

Target Audience

Cardiothoracic anaesthetists, perfusionists, cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, general anaesthetists, critical care certified nurses, anaesthesia certified nurses, nurses, interns, and medical students.
